Note: The 8:30 a.m. service today (July 12th) will be at the church. The 11:00 a.m. service will be at Moore Park followed by the all-church potluck picnic.

Church Service & Picnic– Today, July 12, 11:00 am, at Moore Memorial Park, Big Bluestem Shelter, 3050 Northridge Parkway (8:30 service held at church). ‌COME ONE AND ALL to a potluck picnic immediately following our annual outdoor church service. Last names beginning with the letters A-K, please provide a main dish*. Last names beginning with the letters L-Z, please provide a vegetable/salad and a dessert*. *Please remember to bring serving utensils for your dishes, as well as chairs for the church service.  Drinks and table service will be provided.

Lost and Found There are several lost and found items including glasses, toys, and coats that are in the west coatroom lost and found. Please check them over to see if any of the items belong to you. Thanks!

We still need volunteers for VBS.  Registration- greet people at the front table, register them if not pre-registered, give out name tags. Group guides and helpers- sit with group of children, walk them to the different stations at the right times, help keep children focused in each station. Group helpers- helps the group guide with the above. Please contact Thomas Wilson or Carla Murphy or sign up on the bulletin board.

WANTED: SR. LYF LEADERS The Board of Youth are seeking 1-2 people to act as Leaders for our Sr. LYF for 2015-16. This person(s) would help plan and oversee activities designed for our youth in 9-12 grades with the help of the Board of Youth. If interested or for more information, please contact Carla Murphy.

Women’s summer Bible study:  For the summer the women’s Bible study group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 5:45 pm in the Youth room. We will not be doing a continuous series, but stand alone topics, so come when you are able.

We are offering 1/4 Zip Fleece Pullovers in men’s and women’s sizes. This is an outreach by the Evangelism committee. We are offering them at $10 each. The color is Columbia Navy. We will have a sample hanging by the front door and a sign- up sheet. You may pay for them when they come in. We will be using the church logo with a cross and a dove with St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ames, Iowa.

Two New Opportunities where we can make a MAJOR difference in the lives of others: 1. Vietnam Veterans of America, initiated by the Story County Chapter. They are starting a duffel bag outreach. They are looking for donations of items to put in a duffel bag that will be distributed in various ways in Story and surrounding counties to homeless veterans.
Items needed: bar soap, wash cloth, nail clippers, comb, shampoo, bandaids, tooth brush, tooth paste, small tissue packs, disposable razor, socks, undershirts (T shirts), underwear-boxers or briefs, bath towel, plastic poncho, note pad with pencil, baseball type cap or hat.

The Book to Know group will meet Tuesday, July 14, at the home of Tanny Latuska, 1816 Woodhaven Circle,  to discuss “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline. Please Note: This is a change in location.  All are welcome to join us.

VBS needs your party left-overs. Our theme is “Celebrate”. We are looking for ANY type of party celebration decorations –birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc. Streamers, balloons, table decor, party favors and more. If you don’t need and can donate, please place in the bin under the VBS display.

The next Blood Drive is scheduled for Tuesday, 7/14/15, from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The Blood Drive will be held in the St Paul parking lot in LifeServe’s Blood-Mobile. Please contact Brian Weber at (515) 450-2358 for more information, or to sign up for a time slot.

BACKPACK DRIVE The Board of Human Care is collecting new backpacks for children to use in the upcoming school year. There will be a collection bin at the EAST entrance of the church through the end of September. Thanks for your help with this drive!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT…and VBS! Jesus says to feed his people and we need help doing just that at VBS!  We are trying something different to feed God’s people and hope you can help. We need food donations as well as helpers to serve. Items include hot dogs, buns, desserts, milk, syrup, sausages and more. For complete list or to sign up to help serve, please see the sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Please place food donations in the kitchen or fridge and label for VBS. We need the first night’s food donations by noon on Sunday July 19. Meals need to be ready to serve by 5:15pm and VBS starts at 6pm. VBS provides the plates and plastic silverware, cups and napkins. For questions or to sign up please see the bulletin board at church or contact Carla Murphy.  REGISTER FOR VBS TODAY! VBS is July 19-22 from 6-8:30pm. We welcome all ages from age 3 through 6th grade. Students will be placed in groups according to age/grade. We will not be mixing age groups as in the past. Registration is free and what is a celebration without friends? — Please invite relatives, friends and neighbors to join us as we Celebrate God’s Love!  VBS NEEDS CONTAINERS For one of our craft projects, we need plastic containers with a wide opening/top, such as ice cream containers, plastic gallon jugs like milk or water (we can cut off the top), etc. Please have clean and place in the donation bin by the VBS display.

Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa is seeking individuals 55 years and older who meet federal income guidelines and enjoy working with children to volunteer between 15-40 hours a week through its Foster Grandparent Program in Marshall County. Foster Grandparents receive a stipend for volunteering at either an elementary school or day care center for a minimum of 15 hours a week. The goal of the program is to provide one-on-one support to children who have special needs by assisting with reading, small group work and/or specific tutoring activities.
