Announcements:

Have you thought about serving on the Altar Guild or are you interested in learning more about the Altar Guild? We are looking for more members. If you are interested or have questions, please feel free to talk to any of the Altar Guild members or chairman, Judy Peter.

Are you working on your bucket list this summer? There are still party buckets available to take home and have a party. Some are coming back and are being reloaded for more fun! It’s a great way to build relationships with neighbors, co-workers, friends, family, etc. Give it a try.  Any questions? Call Janelle Swenson or Ellen Sander.

We are collecting plastic grocery bags to be donated to Camp Okoboji. This is to help them save money on trash bags. Bags should be in decent shape meaning no big holes. If you have questions, please contact Charles Ellis for more information.

Fall Women’s Bible Study – We will be studying “David, A Man after God’s Heart” in September.  If you would like a book, please let the office know. Thank you.

Sign Up for August 26 Training Day Event! Reverend Greg Finke and Susan Finke will be joining us for the weekend of August 26.  On Saturday August 26, they will lead a fun and informative training session from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.  We have available after the church service today Reverend Finke’s just published book “Joining Jesus: Show Me How”.  The discounted price cost is $10. In order to prepare for this great event, please complete the sign-up form in the worship folder. Over 60 members of our church family attended the training event in January with Reverend Finke and Susan.  This session promises to be just as fun and informative.  We will learn how simple it is to disciple our family and friends the way Jesus disciples His family and friends in the gospel.

Family Service quilting group will meet for a Thrivent Action Team Event on Thursday, August 10th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Please come and join us. your Thrivent T-Shirts and bring a sack lunch.

This fall we will kick off our first ever Lutheran Olympics here at St. Paul. All families, no size too big and no size too small, are encouraged to sign up.  When: Sunday, September 10th; Time: 2:00 PM.  Registration is open NOW, and the deadline to register is Wednesday, August 23rdForms are on the Family Corner bulletin board.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Vocal Choir Director – The duties of this part time position would to be to direct  the Parish Choir. The director would hold weekly practices and direct the choir during worship 2 Sundays a month, Sept.- May. In addition, the opportunity to serve as part time organist would be available. Compensation to be commensurate with experience and qualifications. If interested, email office@saintpaulames.org  for more information. PICK & PAY  ~The 2019 NYG participants kick off their two-year fundraising campaign NEXT Sunday (August 13th) and we kick it off with a NEW idea this year: Pick & Pay!  This gourmet lollipop tree is a great way to help the NYG participants to earn funds to make it to Minneapolis in 2019. It’s easy! Pick the sucker you want, look at the bottom of the stick, pay the amount that corresponds to the color you have! It could cost you only 50 cents, $1, $2, or at most $5! Take a chance and help us earn some dough!  This is the sweetest deal around!

That’s a WRAP!  Thank you to everyone that attended or volunteered for Mighty Fortress  VBS 2017!  It was a HUGE success! We were blessed with awesome youth and adults this year. Watch for a full update of the four day VBS next Sunday!

Junior High Gathering  NAILED IT!  Iowa District West holds a Junior High Youth Gathering in Des Moines every fall for youth grades 6th through 8th grades. This year the theme is “Nailed It” to go along with the Reformation. The Board of Youth would like to have a group attend the gathering and will be conducting and informational meeting next Sunday, August 13th @ 10:00 AM in the Youth Room. We highly encourage parents and youth to attend the meeting for more information! If you have questions please feel free to contact Carla Murphy.

SAFE Policy and Procedures Training will be held on Sunday, August 20 in the sanctuary between services from 9:45-10:15. If you are planning on volunteering to work with the youth of St. Paul, in any way, VBS, Sunday School, or Mid-Week School, please come and be trained in proper procedures. Please complete the SAFE application (available in the office or online) prior to training. If you are not available on that date, or have questions, contact Jana Weiss.

Looking for a Few Good MEMBERS!  The Board of Christian Education is looking for a few good members, individuals or couples, to teach/ co-teach the 7th and 8th grade Sunday school program. New curriculum has been chosen for this class and we would like to have get a teacher, or teachers, in place soon. Please prayerfully consider this chance for you to have an impact on the lives of the youth of this congregation!
