Thanksgiving Baskets of Plenty Sunday, November 24, is the Thanksgiving Food In-Gathering for Bethesda Community Food Pantry. Cash donations and food items will be placed on the altar. Suggested food item: food which can be sent home with children for the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. Many children only have the meal they get at school and during breaks they may not have anything.

Younkers stores and their affiliates are holding their annual “Community Days” event on November 15-16, where they offer a booklet of one-time savings worth up to $500. Booklets are available for $5 and proceeds support the 2016 National Youth Gathering. If you would like one or more booklets, you can purchase them this week from Matt Latuska, Morgan Tupper, Kaitlyn Cook, Kaitlin Wegner, Ben Gebhart, Caleb Donavon, or Alex Highby.

HOPE Gift Market- Today, Fellowship Hall, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm Please visit the HOPE Gift Market displays in the fellowship hall today before and after both worship services. There are seven “alternative” ways of gift giving to friends, family, neighbors, etc. Or, if you have a tradition of making seasonal donations to worthy causes, this market is just the place to visit. A shopping list is available for your review. If you would like a special Gift Certificate to give in place of an actual gift, you may request one at the cashier’s table. Join the St. Paul Board of Human Care members today as they acquaint you with the perfect way to share your blessings with brothers and sisters around the world that need gifts of help that could change their lives. Happy shopping!

If you are leaving town for the winter, please let the office know your winter address so we can send the Epistle and other mailings to you.

Our Quilting group is in need of used sheets, cloth tablecloths, mattress pads, and fabrics for use in making quilts for the needy. Please place in the tub marked “Quilter Supplies” in the narthex. Thanks!!

We need someone to put up/take down the outside nativity set this year in December. It is at least a 3 or 4 person job. If anyone is interested please contact Sandra Pflug 460-2917. Thanks!

Our new Audio/Visual system is ready for use. We are in need of willing people who would like to be trained to operate the control panel. When the system has been installed the company will provide training for all interested parties. If you would be willing to serve in this way, please let Chris Hand or the office know.  Thank you, Board of Elders

You can help! Coordinators are needed to help with LYF group events each month. Ideally, we would have three or more people to help with elementary, middle school, and high school. Some events could include all age groups. Duties would include coming up with event ideas, helping coordinate transportation (if needed), and providing resources for the events (i.e. craft materials). The board of youth will help as well. You do not need to have kids in LYF to be a coordinator!  Contact Lowell Highby for more information 515-708-3680;  .

Wednesday morning Bible study will continue on November 13. We meet from 10:30-11:30am on Wednesday. Please read chapters 31-33 of Numbers for the next session.

Men’s Bible Study will resume on Nov 11th. New members are encouraged to join us. We have just begun a new study on Jeremiah.

The Praise Team is in great need of keyboard volunteers.  If you can help out, please talk to Joan Ingwersen.

The Concordia Self-Study Bible will be permanently out of print soon. The Concordia Self-Study Bible (CSSB) provides the older version of the NIV Bible (1984) translation with Zondervan’s NIV Study Bible notes, modified by Lutheran Bible scholars. We encourage you to this Bible now. Concordia is offering an alternative: The Lutheran Study Bible.  See the Concordia website for details. www.cph.org

Fall Clean Up– November 16th We start at 8 a.m. and work till 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come and join the fun.

NEEDED:  Nursery volunteers for both the 8:30 service and 9:45 Sunday School hour.  We cannot continue to rely on the same few people month after month.  Please consider taking one hour a month.  Our children and parents need you!

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign will be starting soon. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the Bell Ringing Coordinator at 233-3567 or go to the website www.ringames.org.

LYF trip to LFL – An LYF trip to Lutherans For Life is coming up November 13 following mid-week classes. While at LFL, Dr. Lamb will lead the kids in an interactive presentation called  “The Handiwork of God.” We will look at the Trinitarian value of human life and ask the question, “What has God done with His hands that gives value to every human being?” Permission forms due Nov. 10th.

2014 Offering envelopes are ready to pick up. See the tables in the west entryway.

Time to start collecting gently used winter coats and bedding. Also need new knit hats and gloves and underwear.  Keep bringing shoes-new, old, worn and smelly. They take them all. The good ones go to the HOPE ministry thrift shop and the others are recycled.

FISH Dinner, meaning the international dinners served at Memorial Lutheran Church each month, with help of other churches doing clean-up. In the past the WOSP, HUMAN CARE & EVANGELISM have taken this responsibility but at the last Board of Directors it was decided that this should be a congregational way to serve.

Therefore, a sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board for your help. The date is Feb. 7th, the dinner will be Taiwanese and anyone who signs up may attend the dinner & experience this international food OR you may come later to help clean up which involves wiping down tables, washing the pot& pans, sweeping the floor, etc. Many hands make light work & there usually is help there from a sorority or fraternity as well as one of the pastors for guidance.

Thank you.  Al Latuska, Human Care
